Green Cleaning in the News

"Household Hazards: Potential Hazards of Home Cleaning Products" a report released July 24th by Women's Voices for the Earth and organizations across the country, examines the health impacts of 5 types of chemicals commonly found in household cleaners. The report found a large number of Lysol products manufactured by New Jersey-based company Renckitt-Benckiser to contain chemicals linked to asthma and reproductive harm. Stacey Kennealy, coordinator of the CHEJ's Green Flag, GreenFaith Schools program which has succeeded in empowering faith based schools to transition to green cleaners co-released the report in New Jersey, and stated; "The scientific evidence cited in 'Household Hazards' is irrefutable, and will open people's eyes to the need for these changes in any place our children reside."

CHEJ's Florida Alliance for Healthy Indoor Environments (FAHIE) released the report in Florida , and used it to highlight their duel-fold work to: transition Walt Disney World to transition to Green Cleaners; and to educate local schools and child care centers in the issue."We've seen first-hand the damage that toxic exposure can have on your children's health," says Denise Robinette, who has two sensitive asthmatic children that travel with a nebulizer when they visit hotels due to cleaning chemicals routinely used. Robinette is now a member of FAHIE and runs HealthyLiving Foundation, a non-profit that works in educating the community that public schools need to eliminate dangerous chemicals used for cleaning in the schools. FAHIE coordinator, Heather Walker, was interviewed on Local 6 Orlando on the work of FAHIE and the report. The interview write-up can be found at http://www.local6.com/news/13741292/detail.html
