Garlic: Good for Warding Off More Than Vampires

Garlic, originally cultivated in Asia, has been used for thousands of years as both a food and a medicine.  Garlic is a member of the onion family and has been known to help strengthen the body’s defenses against allergies, regulate blood sugar, and loosen plaque from artery walls.  It is a potent natural antibiotic, effective against toxic fungus, viruses, and bacteria.

Home Remedies & Disease Prevention

As a home remedy, garlic can be used for coughs, asthma, chronic bronchitis, or other ailments of the lung, due to its capacity to act as an expectorant.  Garlic, eaten or applied with various methods, is known to be effective for treating scratchy throats, toothaches, ear infections, packed sinuses, herpes, rashes, bug bites, tonsillitis, stomach cramps, constipation, and bloating.  The antioxidants found in garlic fight free radicals, which can harm cell membranes and DNA – leading to accelerated signs of aging and other conditions.

Evidence suggests that garlic may help to prevent the following:

•    the common cold
•    cancer
•    heart disease
•    high blood pressure

Honey Garlic Home Remedy for Coughs and Sore Throats                                                                                                                                                                              

Ingredients
garlic cloves (about 24)
raw honey (enough to cover the garlic cloves)

Preparation
Place peeled garlic cloves in a glass jar.  Coat the garlic cloves with honey and place on a sunny windowsill for about two days.  It is ready when the garlic is somewhat opaque.  Eat one teaspoon of the honey every few hours to soothe sore throats and alleviate coughs.

Vinegar, Garlic, and Honey Miracle Home Remedy

This basic elixir has been used to stimulate the immune system, block agents of cancer, reduce high blood pressure, lower cholesterol, relieve arthritis, treat asthma, and alleviate other conditions and ailments.

Ingredients
8 cloves garlic
1 cup raw honey
1 cup apple cider vinegar

Preparation
Put ingredients into a blender and mix on high speed for one minute.  Pour mixture into a glass container, seal, and refrigerate for five days.  

Dosage:  Two tsp. in a glass of fruit juice or water, taken daily.

Magic Italian Garlic Cure for a Cold

Ingredients
1 or 2 whole heads of garlic
olive oil
salt and pepper

Preparation
Boil the heads of garlic for 8 to 10 minutes, until tender.  Slice in half; with half cloves facing down, fry with olive oil and salt and pepper for about five minutes, until crispy.  Spread on toast and enjoy.

Garlic Tea for a Cough

Ingredients
3 cloves of fresh garlic
boiling water

Preparation
Peel and chop three cloves of fresh garlic; let sit for ten minutes.  Add garlic to a cup of boiling water, and sip when not too hot.
